English Language Arts Reading
Heritage Middle School encourages all students to read daily. We promote the idea of "just right books" and we hope that students will consider their hobbies and interests as well. Reading has a different purpose for everyone. Some read to acquire information, some read to fantasize, and others to step through a door into a new world. The ELAR department at HMS believe that all students have the potential to read and write so that they can be an author of their own story.
On this page you will find a link to the recommended summer reads by grade level. The slide deck includes a blurb and reviews for each book so that parents and students together can make informed decisions about what they read. We encourage parents to read along with your student so that you can discuss the reading together.
If you are scheduled for ELAR Honors next school year, the ELAR teachers expect that you will read at least one of the novels this summer.
Looking forward to a wonderful 2023-2024 school year.
“The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read.” -Mark Twain
