The Sociedad Hispánica de Amistad
What is SHA?
"Sociedad Hispánica de Amistad" (SHA) translates to "Hispanic Society of Friendship" in English, and it's a student led chapter society specifically designed for middle school students who are studying Spanish or Portuguese, aimed at encouraging young learners to engage with the language and culture through community service and ambassadorship activities; it is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) since 1917.
Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service as bilingual students in the East Central Community.
I'm in SHA! What is required of me?
In order to remain an active member of SHA there are certain requirements you must meet.
1. Attend ALL meetings. (If you must miss, talk to an officer or a sponsor)
2. Complete 12 merits by volunteering through campus and on your own community.
3. Continue enrollment in Spanish 3 and/or Exploring Cultures class as a bilingual student.
